FourSquare: Enormous Potential for Local-Marketing

In recent weeks, I’ve become fascinated with the location-based social network called Foursquare. While I’ve been using location-based apps on both my Blackberry and iPhone for a while (Google Maps is a good example), Foursquare is the first service that has made me stop and think about the potential of hyper-local marketing on mobile devices, not just down the line but right now.

If you haven’t tried Foursquare yet (and most people haven’t), here’s the deal.
Foursquare describes itself as “50% friend-finder, 30% social cityguide, 20% nightlife game.” While in Beta, Foursquare was only available in a few cities, but in recent weeks has opened up for access in any city. Now, whenever you arrive at a new place you can “check in” to tell the service you’re there.
Each time you “check in” you earn points, which go towards a “leaderboard” of you and the people to whom you’ve chosen to connect. If you’ve visited a place more than anyone else in the last 60 days, you become the “mayor.” It’s largely meaningless, but cool to see people who regularly attend places (especially from a marketing potential perspective.) It can also link to your Twitter and Facebook feeds to broadcast to your friends where you are and the different badges you have obtained. Read the rest of this entry »
Want to Succeed in Freelancing? Start With Getting Yourself a Business Card

If you’re going to be networking to drum up business, or just meet people who might want to use your services (that is, potentially everyone you meet) you should get some business cards so they have an easy reminder of who you are and what you do. It’s hard enough establishing yourself as a freelancer, but having something that makes you stick out helps potential clients remember you.
On your card you should have (at minimum):
- Your business’s name (if different)
- Contact details
- What you do
- Have space that a potential client can scribble on

So I came across theses videos last year, but I completely forgot about them until someone sent me a link via Twitter.
Charles Lewis, also known as Chuck, Poetic Prophet and The SEO Rapper, is a gospel hip hop artist who does Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Social Media Consulting for the rapidly growing Pop Labs. SEM by day, Chuck is knowledgeable in consulting and implementing White Hat SEO methods for marketing and optimizing a website for search engines. Chuck is also a lover of hip hop and he has recently merged his two passions together and developed a series of online marketing related raps. These raps cover a range of topics from Link Building, Paid Search along with the most recent release, Design Coding. Design Coding covers the do’s and don’ts of designing and coding a website for accessibility , optimization and conversions. Most of the online world believes these raps are creative and entertaining, but Chuck wants listeners to realize these raps are educational and instructional as well. With more online marketing raps on the way, Chuck is definitely a busy person who somehow still finds the time to Twitter, Facebook and watch SportCenter while diligently working on his 3rd Holy Hip Hop album.
