About

Matt Brown ¡Hola!, I’m Matt. I am a 21 year old freelancer currently living in Greensboro, North Carolina.

I am currently a student at UNC-Greensboro. I run my own freelance web design business, 336 Creative, and somehow find time during my schedule to make it to class.

TheMattBrown.com is my personal spot on the web. Here I post my ramblings about just about anything, but mostly about my experiences Freelancing, my gadgets, and tech news. So if it won’t fit into 140 Characters, I’ll post it here.

Since I am indeed a gadget guru/technological enthusiast, I thought I should share with you some of my belongings:

My Setup:

Macbook Pro Macbook Pro Macbook Pro

I have the 15.4″ Apple Macbook Pro (Early 2008). I purchased this computer the day that it was announced at Macworld 2008 in the Steve Job’s Keynote. I was very excited as this was the first MBP with the new Trackpad. It has a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor combined with 4GB of DDR2 RAM and a 250GB HD. I connect my laptop to my new 23″ Apple Cinema Display and use it primarily as a normal desktop computer. I bought this display in February of 2009. I was going to buy the new Apple 2nd Generation Display, but that only works with the new Unibody Macbooks with the Mini Displayport, not the DVI-D like I have on my MBP.

In an effort to fight any kind of heat damage to my sweet computer, I opted to add a cooling fan to the arsenal. I went for the new Targus Chill Mat designed specifically for Mac. It’s a pretty slick device, and fits well in with the design of the Mac. It’s not in the photos above, but here is the stock photo of what I have.

For Backups, and to store my approximately 500GB of Movies, I use two External Hard Drives. For all of my movies, I store them on my very basic, yet highly reliable Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 500GB External HD. For all of my Time Machine needs, I back them up using my handy and portable Western Digital My Passport for Mac 320GB External HD. It is nice and small and easy to take with me. It hides nicely in the back as shown in the photo. The only complaints I would have for them is that they are both only USB 2.0, and have no Firewire. So when I’m transferring big websites or movies to and from, it does take much longer than it would via Firewire. Next purchase will definitely be Firewire Externall HD’s.

To wrap up my awesome Apple Workhorse, I have added both the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse as well as the Apple Wireless Keyboard. They are both really sweet.

Last but not least, It’s impossible to have an awesome setup without jammin’ to some rockin’ tunes while working. Luckily, I’ve got an awesome sound system to help me out there. I have the Bose Companion 3 SpeakerSystem to keep me covered. It’s amazing how powerful this system is.
